Is carving the perfect turn your passion? If so, get ready for the rush of surfing and snowboarding wherever there’s pavement. Introducing the award-winning BMW Street Carver. Its unique ride response comes from the BMW 5 Series pendulum support, integrated into the aluminum chassis. It’s true 21st century technology at your feet.

The BMW Streetcarver is more than a conventional skateboard. It is a completely new type of fun sports equipment, which for the first time allows riders to experience the feeling of snowboarding and surfing on the road.

Its progressive steering means that by shifting weight, riders can experience genuine “carving”, in other words controlled changes of direction, similar to turning on skis or a snowboard.

  • The innovative aluminum steering mechanism with components from the original BMW 5 Series chassis allows spectacular steering maneuvers, while ensuring stable handling.
  • Wear indicators in the PU wheel treads provide additional safety and can be replaced separately.
  • Maintenance-free wheel bearings provide long term smooth running.
  • The sandwich construction board made of wood with glass fiber inserts provides excellent damping for the carver.
  • Anti-slip rubber mats increase safety levels.
Several international awards confirm the unique nature and quality of the Streetcarver design:
  • Red dot 2000 – one of the most recognized design prizes in the world.
  • I.D. Magazine Award iF Award 2001
  • Good Design Award 2000 Design Award
  • Baden-Württemberg 2001
The BMW Street Carver: passion and performance are just around the corner. For ages 12 and up. Board dimensions: L 33.5" x W 11" x H 6.3

> You can influence the driving direction of your carver by shifting your weight. For example, a slight shift of your weight to the left-hand side will result in a slight left turn. The construction of the carver especially supports the so-called "setting on edge" , which results in movements resembling snowboard-carving. One level ground, you can raise your speed at every turn by shifting your weight from front to rear. Here you are using the same principle as, for example, on a swing.
> Here your weight should be centered over the front axle of the carver (stability!). You should be in a position which reduces air friction to a minimum (speed!). The stance of the speed skaters on ice, with one hand positioned at the small of your back, is ideal. If the carver starts to "wobble": stand up in normal position and try to stabilise.
> At low speed it is most simple if you use the foot placed on the tail of your carver (in the regular foot stance this would be the right foot) as a brake of touching ground on the right-hand side. Touch ground with the heel first, then gradually shift weight to the ball of your foot. Never use this method at high speed! You can reduce your speed by making big sharp turns. Do not make small wiggly turns as this pumps the carver and speeds you up.
> The best and most widely used method for this is the so-called Coleman slide, you will need a skater's wristguard with plastic or steel sliding surfaces (cliffslider gloves). As this manoeuvre is performed at high speed and includes, among other things, to touch ground with one hand, the Coleman slide can be studied only under expert guidance. Have lessons from a qualified expert to learn this technique and makes sure you always wear protective gear!

Skaterslang:   (Click to expand the followings)
A - measurement for the hardness of skateboard wheels.
DECK - the flat standing surface of a skateboard.
GRIP TAPE - formerly often sandpaper affixed to the top of the deck with adhesive, used to increase the friction between the deck and the skater's feet; with the BMW StreetCarver already premounted rubber mats.
KINGPIN - axel bolt.
NOSE - the front part of the skateboard, beginning with the fastening screws of the front truck. (With the BMW StreetCarver, nose and tail are designed alike.)
RAIL - the edge of the skateboard, also, plastic strips attached to the board's underside.
STAIN - Normal deck without a slick bottom.
TAIL - the rear part of the skateboard, beginning with the fastening screws of the rear truck. (With the BMW StreetCarver, nose and tail designed alike.)
TRUCKS - the front & rear axle assemblies that connect the wheels to the deck.
WHEELS - usually made of polyurethane and sized between 39 and 66 millimeters in diameter. There is an ongoing trend towards bigger wheels, the wheels of the BMW StreetCarver are 110 millimeters in diameter.
WHEELBASE - the distance between the front and back wheels, measured between the two sets of innermost truck holes.
AIR - riding with all four wheels off the ground; short for aerial.
BACKSIDE - when a trick or turn is executed with the skater's back facing the ramp or obstacle.
BIGSPIN - a 360-degree shove-it while turning your body 180 degrees in a backside direction.
CABALLERIAL - a 360-degree turn performed on a ramp while riding fackie (backwards), named after skater Steve Caballero.
CARVE - to skate in a long, curving arc.
FAKIE - skating backwards: the skater is standing in his or her normal stance, but the board is moving backwards (not to be confused with switch stance).
FRONTSIDE - when a trick or turn is executed with the front of the skater's body facing the ramp or obstacle.
GOOFYFOOT - riding with the right foot forward, the opposite of regular foot.
GRIND - scarping one or both axles on a curb, railing, or other surfaces, such as: 50-50 grind - grinding on both trucks equally.
INDYGRAB - grabbing the board in front of you with the rear hand.
JAM - getting a load of skaters together for a skateboard session.
MCTWIST - a 540-degree turn performed on a ramp named after Mike McGill.
MONGO-FOOT - a style of pushing where the back foot is kept on the board and pushing in done with the front foot (Mongo-foot is very uncool and also impractical.)
PADS - protective equipment for knees and elbows.
PRO - a professional. Someone who gets paid by a company to skateboard.
RAILSLIDE - a trick in which the skater slides the underside of the deck along an object, such as a curb or handrail.
REGULAR FOOT - riding with the left foot forward, the opposite of goofyfoot.
SESSION - the act of skateboarding. You can have a session on a ramp, a street, a parking lot, etc.
SHOEGOO - liquid rubber that comes in tubes. Buy it then put it over the holes in your shoes and watch it harden.
SHOVE-IT - a trick performed by spinning the board 180 degrees beneath the feet while traveling forward.
SLALOM - doing the thing that snowboarders do, except on hard ground with usually a dedicated skateboard.
SLAM - its basically another word for falling off your board and hurting yourself.
STOKED - the feeling of doing something well.
SWITCH-STANCE - riding the board with the opposite footing than usual, i.e., goofyfoot instead of regular foot.
TAILSLIDE - sliding the underside of the tail end of a board on a ledge or lip.
WRISTGUARD - protective equipment for the wrist. A type of glove containing a plastic/metal splint running along the underside of the wrist onto the palm of the hand.
HALF PIPE - an U-shaped ramp of any size, usually with a flat section in the middle.
QUARTERPIPE - basically one side of a mini-ramp or vert ramp, yet usually with less width and found on street areas at skateparks. Often used for gaining speed on a street course or practicing ramp tricks..
STATEPARK - a park specially designed for skating, with special constructions, ramps and courses.
VERT SKATING - skating on ramps and other vertical structures specifically designed for skating.
VERT RAMP - a half-pipe, usually at least 8 feet (2.5 meters) tall, with steep sides that are perfectly vertical near the top.

Warning - All sports carry a risk of injury. Sometimes accidents happen which are truly unavoidable but usually there are ways to reduce the risks of anything nasty happening. 1. Always wear protective gear. Helmets, knee, elbow and wrist guards. 2. Inspect your equipment before every session. Check the wheels & trucks for excessive wear. Make sure all bolts are tight and the wheels are seated properly. And examine the platform for cracks or stress lines. 3. Live to play another day. On any new terrain, start slowly. Test the traction limits of your wheels. Carve progressively harder to determine the limits of your comfort zone.
